Class helps deaf Bhutanese refugees restart their lives | Seattle/LocalHealthGuide

There is a tremendous need for this among the Bhutanese-Nepali refugees. So many hearing-impaired and deaf among them. Bravo to the folks in Seattle that have gotten this program going.

Reflection: If I withdraw my love . . .

If I withdraw my love from one follower of Jesus, I withdraw my love from all of them.

If I don't love Sue, I don't love Steve.  Neither merits my love more than the other.  Both are wretched and redeemed.  If I say that Steve is easier to love, don't I really mean that I enjoy Steve more?  Don't I really refer to what Steve has done for me?  In which case, I am not really loving Steve at all.  I am only loving what Steve does and can do for me.  I am loving myself.  Self-love.

If I withdraw my love from one follower of Jesus, I withdraw my love from all of them.

Christians crucified Christ.  All of us.  Yet he does not withhold His love from any of us.  Because He finds no reason to love us, His love does not depend upon us.  His love comes to us without condition.  Thus, there can be no condition for its removal.  Jesus finds no reason to remove his love from any of his followers.  How can I? If He hasn't stopped loving Sue, what right have I to stop loving? And if I do, my love to all of God's people becomes suspect.  If I can come up with a reason to stop loving one, it would surely prove to be a selfish reason.  It might be a reason for many things, but it cannot be a reason to stop loving.  If there can be a reason for me to withdraw my love when there cannot be a reason for Christ to withdraw His, my love proves to be merely self-love.

If I withdraw my love from one follower of Jesus, I withdraw my love from all of them.

I might say that I love Steve more than I love Sue, but what can I say about them that goes deeper than that together they crucified Christ and that both alike are unconditionally loved by Him.  If I withdraw my love from Sue, I have introduced conditions to my love.  But it is impossible to love one person conditionally and one unconditionally.  By withdrawing my love from Sue, perhaps because of her behavior, I have cheapened my love for Steve.  Now, as much as I may feel my love for him, it is only if he toes the line.  My love proves conditional, selfish.  It is self-love.

Ohio Prison System Working Towards Sharia Compliance

How do you feel about the following?

Answering Muslims: Ohio Prison System Working Towards Sharia Compliance: "A decision by Ohio officials to remove all pork products from prison menus in response to a lawsuit by Muslim inmates is not sitting well with the state's pork producers and processors.

Both promise action of their own, including a possible counter lawsuit, to address what they consider an unfair and illogical decision.

"We really think it's not in the best interest, frankly, of the whole prison system," said Dick Isler, executive director of the Ohio Pork Producers Council. "It seems like we're letting a small group make the rules when it really isn't in the best interest of the rest of prisoners.""

दशैंको चिन्नहरु (The Symbols of Dashain)-- An Explanation

The Symbols of Dashain
Dashain is a great time for devotees of the Lord Shri Jesus Christ!  This is a wonderful opportunity for us to worship the Holy Spirit. Together with all our Nepali and Bhutanese friends and family, we can use the rich symbols and traditions of Dashain to express our faith, honor our families, and celebrate Nepali culture.  There are many symbols and traditions in Dashain. Two of the most important are called “tika” and “jamera.” Beginning on the day of “Bijaya Dashami” tika and jamera are used to show love and blessing to family and close friends.
Followers of Jesus should feel confident to use these symbols also. First, all these things were created by God for His glory. Second, the red tika reminds us of the blood of the Lord Shri Jesus that provides our salvation. The rice in the tika reminds us of the seed of faith that we have in Christ. Finally, the jamera reminds us of the Holy Spirit’s work to help us grow.   Together, these symbols provide a powerful reminder of the victory that we have through TriEak Parmeshwar. So, we can say with joy, “Bijaya Dashami!”

Refugee Students Grapple with Racism

Rundlett students talk about hate speechI like how the schools in Concord, NH are getting real about racial tensions involving refugees. Most news articles I've read seem to deny that violence against refugees has anything to do with race, culture, or identity. Those of us on the ground know better. This is helpful article and certainly inspires me to open the conversation up more in our community.

Students grapple with racism | Concord Monitor: "They don't understand why anyone would drive past a park and yell racial epithets and obscenities at kids, they said. They don't understand why someone would write paragraphs of hate on three homes this weekend, proclaiming the refugee residents "unwelcome" "mud people" who have brought death and crime to the city."

UPDATE: Seems the people of Concord are uniting against the anti-refugee hatred that has been spewed out by some in that city.  The following article speaks of a "Love Your Neighbor" rally that was held there during which the Mayor and other officials publicly welcomed refugees from many nations that now have been resettled there.  Bravo!  http://www.nhpr.org/concord-residents-rally-support-refugees

Dashain Daily Prayer (दशैं दैनिका प्रार्थना): Kindness Day

 (२ तिमोथी २:२४, 2 Timothy 2:24)

Today, pray that God will bless all Nepalis with hearts full of kindness towards others. Pray that all quarreling will end.
