Bhutanese-Nepali introductory cultural program held at Scranton High - News - The Times-Tribune

A little more info for my Scranton-area friends who are interested in Bhutanese-Nepali work.

Bhutanese-Nepali introductory cultural program held at Scranton High - News - The Times-Tribune: "'We were four families from Nepal, and now there are more than 80 families.'

Catholic Social Services began resettling Bhutanese refugees from camps in Nepal to the area in 2009, and the result adds to the region's cultural mix. The agency has helped the refugees find residences, enroll in schools, learn English and get jobs."

Three Bhutanese men, including two from Tukwila, died from drowning in Spokane River - Tukwila Reporter

May this story serve as a warning to the Bhutanese-Nepali communities and those who work among them.  For more than two years, I've listened to people decry the unruly and undisciplined behavior of the young Nepali men.  In fact, even last night I listened with frustration as older men in our own community complained about the behavior of one such young man.  Finally, I had to interject that unless older, disciplined men are willing to walk alongside the younger ones, no change can be expected.

These three men, including two from Tukwila and one from Spokane, drowned in the Spokane River after the car they were in ended up in the river. They had been missing since a June 11 trip to Spokane. The car was found July 6 in the river. - COURTESY PHOTO
