Thanks for reading and offering feedback, Alice. I'm not sure if "secondary resettlement" is actually a weird term. It is a useful one in diasporology as it does describe a phenomenon that, while being similar in some ways, is nevertheless distinct from the movement of non refugees. Otherwise, I don't think that you disagree with me when I wrote the following:

"Secondary resettlement is a normal part of the evolution of refugee communities and explains why so many Somalis are in the Twin Cities and Burmese have flooded Ft. Wayne. But it is also a concern. The runs to other cities are often inspired by misinformation and can create overwhelming burdens on local economies. Instead of finding jobs, some refugees find flooded unskilled labor forces, high unemployment, and many other unanticipated new challenges."

I don't suggest that friends, volunteers, cross-cultural workers and the like "battle" secondary resettlement. Often positive things can result. However, the amount of misinformation involved is truly staggering. I know of a situation currently in which families are considering moving from one city where the high school graduation rate is 90% to another where it is 47% because they believe in the latter the parents (in their 30s) will not have to work, but will get free money and social services from the magical government agencies (the same agencies that serve the city they are in now). I don't know the motivations behind the dissemination of such outright lies, but it should anger those who care about refugees. Here is a family that is soon to move itself into harms way. We don't know what the results will be. While secondary resettlement often has no major negative consequences (sometimes quite positive ones), there are plenty of homeless former refugees who would tell a different story.

It is an understadnable and inevitable development for people who have migrated. But in all honesty, secondary resettlement is a weird term. In reality this is nothing more and nothing less then people moving to another place in all liberty. Most of the time because of family reunion.

That is something that is completely normal. All migrant communities all over the world tend to stick together. The downside is getto forming and issues with that, the upside is stronger communities and ethnic empowerment.

It's useless to battle it because people are free to lieve where they want after resettlement. It is much better to guide the process and make it a community effort to make sure people are well informed and a social economical basis is formed.

Thanks so much for your feedback, Steve. I would like to read your article, but will have to wait until I have a chance to go to the library. I think your concerns arise from a too narrow view on what is meant by diaspora mission. Enoch Wan's framework is receiving broad acceptance among diasopora missiologists (http://www.enochwan.com/english/articles/pdf/Diaspora%20Missiology%20in%2021st%20Century.pdf). According to this framework, diaspora mission is to be understood as mission "to, through, and beyond" diaspora. I share your concern about the ethnic enclaving that happens in some corners. However there is a tremendous amount of mission that is happening as well. The Nepali Christian diaspora put on their own global summit last year to pray, discuss and strategize toward becoming a truly missional people in diaspora. The Ghanaian diaspora is immensely missional and cross-cultural in focus. The Korean diaspora is actively pursuing greater mission mobilization and has recently published a book to that end (http://www.amazon.com/Korean-Diaspora-Christian-Mission-Studies/dp/1610972821). And this is only in consideration of mission through and beyond diaspora. We must say much more about mission to diasporas. When I was in South Africa, for example, my heart longed to know who was actively reaching out to the burgeoning Somali diaspora in the cities, the massive Hindu diapora, and the generations-old Malay diaspora. Without a doubt, the scattered people of the world are on the heart of the Lord.

Tilak, Pandita Ramabai, and RC Das as well as others were brilliant, visionary followers who were way before their time. Indeed I do not know if their time has come even now. I understand these cp movements which Garrison describes as being within a relatively stabilized local context. By stable I mean that the local culture including language, family structure, communicstion presuppositions, and religious practises either do not change from generation to generation or change slowly in a managable, less threatening way. This stable environment can receive a cp movement and "launch" one going forward.

A diaspora community is much less stable because it is largely disconnected from nearly all of the institutions that characterize a place where traditinal Cp movements grow. The issue of connectedness is key to creating cp movement within diaspora communities. Three cultures usually influence the issue of connectedness: the culture where the diaspora comes from, the culture that the diaspora creates in it's new home, and the dominant culture or cultures of the place where the diaspora settles. Over time, there will be people and families within a diaspora community that are culturally connected in one of these three ways. The reality of critical mass also influences the connectedness of a diaspora community. Eventua;lly, a critical mass of people live somewhere long enough that a steady stream of visa applications and spouses from "home" arrive in the diaspora community, refreshing the community with its culture of origin. The global economy also has created a large number of people who travel back and forth from the diaspora to home frequently, meaning that the melting pot idea may no longer exist. The diaspora community exists within a context of incredible cultural flux. I think that a centralized church can look into "missional communities" as the growth edge of a cp movement within a diaspora community.

So true, number doesn't matter, what matters is are lives being transformed by the power of Lord Shree Jesus.

When people work in church planting, higher authorities wants number to show as progress. Numbers can come easy in places where gospel has already been planted, you just need to water. Where people never heard gospel before, it takes time for Word to settle down and raise the faith level.

Though Cody and I are obviously world's apart on the use of Hindu practices, I do have great respect for him. I do indeed believe Cody's heart is in the right place. He wants Nepali people to come to know Jesus Christ. Amen. I sincerely believe that about Cody. (I want the same thing. I hope you can accept that about me.) I have never had doubts about Cody's faith in Christ or his heart's intent or motive in all he is doing.

I will say check your own life and try to figure out how you use the Word of God. Remember God is not mocked. He will judge for every idle word a person speaks.
